ABOUT WOA
Thousands of parents, youth, and educators will take part in student-led actions and events in many cities to expose the school pushout crisis in our nation and advocate for the human right of every young person to a quality education and to be treated with dignity. The events and actions will include, public forums, rallies, restorative justice trainings, and more.

The Dignity in Schools Campaign’s National Week of Action brings together organizations and individuals from many states to call for an end to zero tolerance policies, for the implementation of positive approaches to discipline, like restorative justice practices and positive behavior supports instead of relying solely on suspensions and expulsions, and for the passage of federal legislation that promotes positive school climates.
Save the Date!
7th Annual National Week of Action Against School Pushout
October 15-23, 2016
During last year's DSC Week of Action, over 100 organizations in more than 40 cities across the country held rallies, marches, forums and workshops to raise awareness to #EndSchoolPushout and to launch and support local campaigns to transform and #RethinkDiscipline.

You can see photos from actions around the country on our Tumblr page!
Our National Week of Action Demands
This year DSC members and allies will call on the federal government, states, districts and schools to:

Shift funding from school police to counselors, peace builders and positive discipline.
Fund and use transformative and restorative justice, mediation and positive interventions.
Stop arresting and pushing out students of color, LGBTQ youth, students that are homeless, and students with disabilities at higher rates. (Black students are pushed out at the highest rates nationally.)
Make sure states and districts focus on school climate under the new federal law - the Every Student Succeeds Act.
End paddling and physical punishment in all schools.

DSC will also be hosting a national event on October 18th in Pittsburgh, PA where DSC members and allies will be joined by legislators, parents and students including musical performances! More details to come.

We look forward to an eventful week and will share updates as we get closer to our exciting National Week of Action Against School Pushout.
