INTRODUCTION

We are making important steps so that we, amongst the rest of the Family communities, can go forth to do the work that we are called to do. Every family of the educational system has a right to be heard and the children have a right to a great education.

We are created in the divine likeness of those who came to demand before us. We live a struggle that we know to well but are creating/demanding safe spaces for us to be heard. This is what will sustain us.

We write of mental and physical oppression that attempts to keep our children bound to that educational slavery (testing, exclusion, labeling, profiling, privilege). Even though our Families have been indoctrinated with the belief that they are inferior, we will be courageous enough to know that families will evolve into the strong advocates who are respected and listened to as well as looked at as the true leaders.

Our educational oppression is a timeless message that tells of the struggle of our marginalized families and how every day we  push our children to rise above the education system's expectations. We must see and name the process of knowing and connecting to the "RESTORATIVE PARADIGM SHIFT" message as our Families' capital.

We are dedicated to the growth and maturity of our Families/Students and carry an inner courage to conquer the trials we come across.

When asked for a word to describe the capital of our Families, we call it  "RPS unified collaborative" capital. Ours is a community built on the strength drawn from the love of our Children.

We are the Families

fed up with the racism, classism, push out,  so called achievement gap and exclusion within our education institutions.

We are families who will demand our rights for our children to get the education they deserve. We will take our place as experts of our children back. We will model the strength and tenacity of a strong father/mother/grandparent/guardian who does not give up.

These are our children- pushed out  excluded, labeled, profiled, hurting and marginalized... Some have no hope. Through our efforts we will restore that hope.

We will do this with our love, support, education, engagement, mentoring and sometimes even with tough love.

We will take full responsibility along with accountability to galvanize, organize, and strategize the families.

Our goal is to rejuvenate our Family community/families through diverse methods as mentioned above.

Our Vision is to see transformed quality of life within our school communities. Our families will be whole again and the achievement gap closed.

PARENT POWER

If you have come to help me, you are waisting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us walk together…”

PPU Gathered "PPU Grands BUDDIES" together to talk about supporting  Grands raising Grandchildren. A Grands Team (if you will) to encourage Creative Contributions to Online/Homeschool Learning due To Social Distancing and Self-Selecting (Temporary) Homeschooling  along with Other Relevant Educational Processes.

This means Gathering up Collaborations Among Grandparents who are compelled to provide their experiences, support, guidelines, services, supplies and a curriculum that can support Grandparents who need help with Homeschooling and Virtual learning during this Time. The intentions are to create a Grandparents "Social Distance" Hub or just a Hub when folks can come back together where idea sharing, counseling, opportunities, options and information could be shared.  Supporting Homeschool Learning and Virtual Learning Provided by  the Grands' Family School Districts and/or those who are customizing  their own curriculum.

The Story-The Beginning

Accumulating Suggested Supportive Services

Ronald and Sheila Warren Sprung into action to start a Homeschool for their Great Grandson when his support and services shut down because of COVID. They thought it a good idea to share their experience with other Grands. PPU  Invited the Ecks (Our PPU Grands Buddies) and (Will Fuller our PPU PARTNER From CPPS) to start the urgent Conversations about Creating a COVID Coalition to support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren in the N./NE., especially focusing on Black Families. We asked the dedicated and loving Pat Eck if he could arrange the urgent meeting, since he volunteered his ZOOM. We are Grateful for Pat and his Wife Jan our Co-founders.....

10 Life Lessons Grandparents Teach Their Grandchildren.

Supporting Our Own Experiences and Philosophy

The relationship between your child and grandparents plays an important part in developing who your child is, as your child can learn a lot!

BY JESSICA PAPPJUN 10, 2019

The relationship between your child and grandparents plays an important part in developing who your child is. Grandparents are not only a blessing but are always there with an outpouring of love, support, wisdom, and guidance. Whether they are involved as the child's guardian, a babysitter when the parents need a break, or a soundboard when Mom and Dad have questions about parenting challenges. Or when grands need to step in as childcare providers.

10 Life Skills

If someone was asked what skill they remember a grandparent teaching them, most answers would pertain to learning some sort of life skill. The necessity of different skills needed in this day and age may have changed a bit since the grandparents were young. But knowing how to cook, bake, sew, clean, and even how to be frugal while shopping (money management) are timeless skills many still teach their grandchildren.

However, not only do they teach essential home economic skills, but the important life skill of getting along with others. Grandparents are mindful of their tone and deliberation of words to remain respectful yet assertive while talking to others. They encourage turn-taking, empathy, careful problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
