As an educator and parent who currently has covid, I fully believe that opening schools now is a mistake that can cause a public health crisis and even death. I ask everyone to please reach out to the school board, your child's school administrators, anyone you can to ask for a halt while we get through this hard time. I love being in the classroom. I want to continue my work with young people, but I am 100% sure that the best course of action is to HALT until numbers go down. Schools were already facing serious staff shortages. The best we can do is to get ahead of the virus, halt, and resume when it is safer, perhaps taking time to plan for the return. Many fellow teachers and families are also sick. Please have compassion and take action by raising your voice about halting re-opening temporarily, knowing that we will return as soon as it is safe.
